Our Approach

The sessions will be used to support the goal set by you and the art therapist.

There may be a series of assessments to help with setting goals.

The Art Therapist uses a directive and a client-led approach to support you to feel safe in your environment and to be able to express yourself in a way that was comfortable for you.

When using the directive approach the art therapist will have a set of art activities that could support you with your goals, these activities will be a way to help you open up and achieve your goals.

When using the client-led approach, the art therapist set up the room with a variety of art supplies, and other activities, allowing you to choose what you would like to create and talk about. Then as you used the objects and created, the art therapist would engage with you with the issues that you may bring up and exploring them with you helping you achieve your goals. The therapy room will be set out in the same way each session You will be encouraged to be creativity through any medium, which maybe drawing, painting, pastels, clay, collage, textiles, sand, natural objects, games and more.

This will help you to be able to focus and express yourself in a safe, quiet environment where you have the full attention of the Art Therapist who is there to listen, observe, encourage, explore, share in insight when appropriate and hold the boundaries of the therapeutic space to allow you to create the pathway to wellness. I will adapt our way of working to suit your needs.

As each client is an individual you will be encouraged to create your own pathway to wellness, that supports your emotional exploration and boundaries along the way.

The art therapist will assist you to reach your goals both as individuals and in groups, facilitating effective communication, appropriate boundaries, and positive structure throughout your life. The art therapist provides safe, non-judgmental and confidential, verbal and non-verbal counselling sessions, to help you work through your issues, and find new positive ways to deal with them.

As each person is an individual, the art therapist and you would set goals that would be suit you, by adapting the session to suite your needs. By assessing you and providing a level of art therapy that you can engage in, thereby enabling you to explore the boundary of your abilities in a safe contained environment, at a speed with which you are comfortable.

To assist you into everyday life. Everyone will have his or her own unique art therapy plan, as each person is a unique person.

Some of the goals that the art therapist would be working towards would be to:

Encourage independent/group and imaginative play. Increase attention, increase social interaction, developmental growth, identifying moods, expression and regulation.
